United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a McLaughlin man charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon was sentenced on October 3, 2011, by United States District Judge Charles B. Kornmann. Boyd William White Twin, age 27, was sentenced to 84 months in custody, 3 years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.
White Twin was indicted for Assault with Intent to Commit Murder, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, and Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury by a federal grand jury on January 11, 2011. The conviction came out of an incident on October 12, 2010, when White Twin got into a verbal argument with his common-law wife. He was angry at her because she would not stay up and watch television with him. At that time and place, White Twin assaulted the victim with a butcher knife, holding it against her throat while threatening her, himself, and their children. White Twin pled guilty to Count II of the indictment, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon – a knife – on May 17, 2011.
This case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Standing Rock Agency. Assistant United States Attorney Mikal Hanson prosecuted the case.
White Twin was immediately turned over to the custody of the United States Marshal to begin serving his sentence.
